The Orange County Council made it down to San Diego to thank sailors from our adopted
Submarine Squadron ELEVEN on Friday, April 9. The awards for the 4th Quarter 2009, 2009
Sailor of the Year, and 1st Quarter 2010 were delayed due until the completion of the
COMSUBPAC Awards in March. Even though we were late, the heart felt appreciation hadn't
diminished. Presenting for the OCNL were Bill Forrey, Carol Forrey, Brett Nelson and Art

The first part of the year is always busy for your Orange County Council, with the submarine force
taking center stage. The COMSUBPAC Awards, the Submarine Birthday Ball and Sub Sailors of the
Quarter and Year presentations are all squeezed in around our Submarine "Leaders to Sea"
program. This year the USS Hampton, SSN-767 got things off and running when She took 5
community leaders from Orange County out for at day a sea. The OC Council "Leaders to Sea"
program helps spread the Navy message by taking OC business, education and entertainment
leaders and allowing them to spend time with sailors while underway. 2010 will see us embark
folks on submarines and aircraft carriers.
USS Hampton, SSN-767 Commanding Officer, CDR William Houston, welcomes OC Navy League "Leaders to
Sea" aboard for their day underway with the crew.
OCNL Treasure, Bill Forrey addresses the crew of USS Albuquerque, SSN-706 before
presenting Council Sailor of the Quarter and of the Year Awards.
The Orange County Council completed taking care of our Southern California Submarine Force
last week. Sailor of the Year and Quarter awards were delivered to the USS Albuquerque,
SSN-706 and a large contingent of OC Leaguers attended the 110th Submarine Birthday ball.
Your Council, with great help from Bacardi USA, Brown-Forman,and Curtis Winnery hosted the
Chief Petty Officers Hospitality Suite. For well over a decade, the Orange County Navy League
has been supporting Pacific Fleet submariners!

Orange County Navy Leaguers and guests have another opportunity to tour the hottest warship in
the Pacific Fleet, May 22, 2010. The USS Ronald Reagan has invited the first 50 OCNL members

1st Quarter 2010 Sailor Awards were presented to the USS Gary, FFG-51 on Friday, May 21. This
was your Councils first opportunity of the year to interact with this adoption. In June, Gary will be
coming to Orange County to take on a weapons load. Plans are in the works to host the crew for

For the third year in a row, Orange County Navy League members and guests toured the USS
Ronald Reagan, CVN-76 in San Diego. OC Leaguers boarded a bus at South Coast Plaza and
enjoyed an extensive tour of America's Flagship. Check out Facebook for more vids and photos!
Your Orange County Council is preparing to host some of the crew of our adopted USS Gary,
FFG-51 when the ship pulls into Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach at the end of June. We're
also saying good-bye to good friends and great sailors at our adopted Submarine Squadron
ELEVEN in San Diego. Information on both is available on the Orange County Navy League

The week of July 19th was a busy one for your Orange County Council. Tuesday the 20th, we
presented the USS Albuquerque, SSN-706 Sailor of the Quarter Awards underway during a
Friends and Family Day. Thursday, July 22 the Council took 50 Leaguers and OC community
members to NAB Coronado for a tour with the operators of SEAL Team 1. Friday and Saturday
saw the Albuquerque and Submarine Squadron ELEVEN hold Change of Command
